Deploying the Sleeve
Does purchasing or storing The Sleeve violate fire code?
No. The purchase or presence of The Sleeve is not a violation fire code; however, deploying the device onto a door closer is. As such, the Sleeve must only be deployed during life threatening active shooter/violent intruder situations. Because the Sleeve is not a permanently mounted deadbolt, slide bolt, flush bolt or other incorporated operating mechanism, it must never be attached to a door and shall be secure and accessible to those individuals trained in its deployment.
Recommend Deployment Practices
- The placement of the Sleeve on the self-closing device of any door does not meet fire code. The Sleeve shall only be used in active shooter emergency situations.
- The Sleeve should be secured and only accessible to trained and authorized individuals.
- The Sleeve should never be used as a door locking device other than during an active shooter event.
- The Sleeve should be removed from the door and secured as soon as the emergency event is over and an all clear order has been given in accordance with emergency response procedures.
